Greetings Dowel fans!

Its the first newsletter of 2025 – praise the Dowel! I hope you all had a very Dowel break and that all you hard working, Dowel believing people reading this newsletter have a wonderful 2025. We now move in to January – which some people don’t like but it does include doweliest day of the year – all the ones 11/1 – all Dowel all Day! Praise. This month we bring you all the Dowel news - and its still not enough.

The Future of the Dowel Newsletter.

We here at Dowel HQ have always been at the forefront technological revolution – we had a Dowel website and electronic newsletter – before most people even knew the internet was - as early as 2015! We also saw the rise and fall of the worlds first decentralised Dowel based currency – which we hope may one day rise again. Point being – we are quick to adapt and given the troubles we are having with emails being censored – we are now also providing Dowel newsletters via the metaverse – i.e. we now have a whatsapp channel which we will use for distributing the newsletter.

Do you click on QR codes from unkown sources – if you clicked on the above you will have found the whatsapp channel of the Dowel. Key takeaways:

• Its private (as much as anything from meta is…)
• You arent visible to other viewers or followers of the channel – they cant see your number, profile picture – or if you gave the newsletter a eggplant emoji.

Theoretically – what with meta getting rid of their content moderators – our new whatsapp method should allow us to truelly speak freely for the first time without the threat of being silenced by google, microsoft or even yahoo… to that end we can return to viewer submitted content. We paused this previously as the submissions were trending towards the… “risque” – but now I say – we will publish anything – so long as its vaguely Dowel related. It doesn’t even have to be Dowel related to be fair - I will consider anything. If you have a create urge that isnt being quenched - email us.

O Canada

Our membership numbers in Canada continue to rise (we recentluy got our first member from Montreal last month too – we are expanding Westward…) I just wanted to mention – that we are on record as not trusting those other north Americans long before they started talking about invading our Brothers and Sisters in Canada. Also we will ensure that in any trade war - Canada will be have our full support and we always be able to provide you with cheap and plentiful European sourced Dowels. Although on that front we cant guarantee that they aren’t Russian – actually the biggest Dowel manufacturers are Russia, China and the USA… interesting isn't it? its a murky world out there. Free the Dowel!

The Dowel (still) needs you.

Last month we put out the call for members to send us copies of the 2001 science fiction mystery film K-PAX on DVD or VHS. We are still along way from our goal – if you can help us with this– let us know.

New Technical guidance for Composite Dowel connections.

A new part of Eurocode 4, EN 1994-1 102, Composite dowels (Part 102) is expected to be published in 2026. We have had an advanced preview and can tell you that this new guidance based mostly on practical experience gathered in Poland and Germany will allow for cost savings in bridge and long span girder design simply by incorporating more Dowels. Another example of the Dowel bringing us together, forwarding innovation and improving efficiencies that will ultimately save the world.
